Originating as a surgical procedure for cisgender men who lost or damaged their testicles for miscellaneous reasons, scrotoplasty is discussed in the context of this website as a treatment for gender dysphoria. Many transgender men (and some nonbinary people) feel discomfort over a lack of having testicles, and desire to obtain an implanted set in order to experience gender euphoria.
For removal of the testicles (as opposed to the creation of a set) see orchiectomy. Note that while a scrotectomy (removal of the scrotum) is sometimes also referred to as scrotoplasty, this is not the surgery that will be discussed on this particular page.
This surgery is typically performed alongside metoidioplasty, phalloplasty, and/or a vaginectomy. However, as with ever individual's personal transition, the combined surgeries and results will vary from person to person based on transition goals.
