- Identity Policing - (n.) - Telling a person that the way they identify, or the labels they use to describe themselves, are wrong.
- I.G.M. - (acronym) - Infant/Intersex Genital Mutilation
- Indigender - (adj.) - An umbrella term referring to those belonging to indigenous cultures with cultural-specific genders. See also third genders.
- Informed Consent - (n.) - A process in which a health care provider educates a patient about the risks, benefits, and alternatives of a given procedure or intervention. Once it is deemed that the patient is able to consent, then the procedure or intervention is provided for the patient. This process is sometimes used regarding gender affirming care, and is much faster than other routes may be.
- Internalization - (n.) - The unconscious process in which a person accepts society’s values and applies them to themself. Internalized homophobia, misogyny, cissexism and transphobia can hinder a person’s understanding and acceptance of their gender.
- Internalized Transphobia - (n.) - When a transgender person is transphobic, either toward themself or toward others.
- Intergender - (adj.) - Someone who feels that their gender is in between two other, ‘full’ genders, such as an androgyne feeling that their gender falls between man and woman. Often used by intersex people.
- Intersex - (adj.) - Intersex people are individuals born with any of several sex characteristics including chromosome patterns, gonads, or genitals that, according to the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, "do not fit typical binary notions of male or female bodies".
- Intersexism - (n.) - The discrimination, prejudice, dislike, and hatred of and towards intersex people.
- Invalidation - (v.) - In trans discussion, a refusal to acknowledge someone’s gender as real and worthy of respect.
