Description
The extremely powerful centuries old vampire known as Casey returns to society and decides to have a little fun with humans.

Chapter One

Brianna checked one last time to make sure that her bedroom door was locked before finally moving to open the window. Carefully, she climbed out of her her room, clumsily landing on the ground. The room was located at ground level, so she wasn't too injured. The tall 16-year-old girl quickly made her way down the quiet sidewalk, and towards the cemetery.

In between the flickering streetlamps, Brianna was somewhat hidden in the shadows. When she entered the graveyard, Brianna pulled out her phone from the back pocket of her jeans to utilize its flashlight function. Not only was the cemetery devoid of streetlamps, but it was encompassed by a thick fog that was not unusual for this time of the year.

When she turned on her phone, Brianna noticed that it was around 1am. Though it had certainly taken a long time for her parents to get to sleep, it was worth it just for another visit to Michael's gravestone.

The path to that gravestone was so often frequented by the young Brianna that she barely required light to find it. When she finally did, she knelt down before it and placed her phone on the ground screen-down so that the area was illuminated. The fog didn't really help, but the area was at least visible for Brianna to pay her respects for her dead boyfriend.

As she silently sat there a few tears rolling down her face at the memories she had of him, Brianna suddenly had the strange feeling that something was in her mind. Random memories were brought up to the front of her thoughts. The thoughts themselves were moving in an unfamiliar manner. A strange sense of hilarity became a prominent feature in her mind out of nowhere, resulting in Brianna bursting out laughing. The sound broke the silence that had shrouded the cemetery nearly as thickly as the fog.

"Sorry."

Brianna whipped around towards where the voice had originated behind her, but there was no-one there. The hood of her dark brown hoodie fell as she moved, exposing her long, blonde hair. The strange feeling in her mind had stopped, leaving her to believe that it had just been her imagination.

"I was just trying to grab one memory, but I slipped and moved too many."

Brianna turned again as the voice had moved to her right. She could see a disruption in the fog. There was an empty space roughly the shape of a person that the thick mist was desperately trying to refill.

"I haven't done this in a while, you see."

The odd voice was now behind Brianna again. Though she tried to move towards it, the source was gone the second her eyes landed on the spot it had been. She slowly turned around on the spot, desperately searching for who was talking, wondering if she was going crazy.

"I've been a total mess lately."

Suddenly, a small figure appeared in front of Brianna. She stared at the shadowy figure. "Who are you?" she asked hesitantly, scared.

"That doesn't really matter right now, now does it? Such a shame, honestly. I wish you could've seen me in my prime. We could've had a bit of fun. Not much of a point in trying now that you've seen me. Its ruined game. Not that I could've thought one up in this state anyways."

Brianna just stared, her expression was one of mere shock. She had no clue what was going on. Who was this person? What were they talking about? Why-

Before the human could even think another thought, her mind was trapped within the powerful hold of the superior being in the shadows. Her thoughts vanished and she couldn't see. The girl lost all control over her own body, and fell to the ground. It couldn't see, and its mind changed into a pure and unholy emptiness.

The figure walked towards the body, and crouched down next to the head. The figure was a vampire by the name of Casey, and she picked up the body slightly so that she could sink her fangs into its neck. Casey sat on her legs, carefully balanced on a pair of worn-out heels in a position that would have posed some problems for a human with lesser balance.

When Casey finally stood up, she left an empty husk on the ground, not quite caring who would see it. Best case scenario, it got eaten by some werewalves. Worse case, some other humans would find it and get suspicious.

Petty human suspicions, however, were of none of the concern of this particular vampire. She wandered through the small suburban neighborhood that had just lost one of its residents, and towards a larger city that she could see off in the distance. It wasn't that far, roughly a mile away. Though Casey had the ability to get to it in under a minute, she instead walked, enjoying the evening and the taste of blood on her lips.

Chapter Two

When Casey arrived into town, she quickly discovered that there was a Door nearby. Of course she did. What kind of vampire would she be if her nose couldn't detect such a powerful magical device?

Casey quickly navigated around the town to find an outline of a rectangle hidden in a wall in an alleyway. She walked through it. Being non-human, there was no resistance. The space that she'd wandered into was a bar. Inside there was a Minotaur behind the bar, and a goblin standing in front of a door.

That door was exactly the Door that Casey had been looking for.

Noticing the short, black haired vampire, the Minotaur called out, "Hey can I interest you in some halfling blood?"

Casey turned to look directly at him. Though the Minotaur had noticed that she was a vampire, he had not yet noticed her bright red eyes that showed that she'd recently fed on a human being. He didn't say anything as Casey turned away and stalked over to the Door which the goblin guarded.

"Move," Casey commanded.

The small man stepped out of the way and Casey opened the door.

The door led to a large circular white room. Equally spaced apart around the room were four hallways that led away from the room. Along the walls of the massive room were doors. They was exactly 100 Doors of different shapes and sizes and makes. Each of the Doors led to another location on earth. The hallways led to different rooms that led to different planets, and if you went far enough you would find Doors that led to versions of planets in parallel universes. Not all planets had 100 Doors, but every version of Earth did.

Casey looked around and she found the door that she was looking for. It led to the largest city on this version of Earth, a city which contained a Blood Bar, one of her favorite establishments. This door led directly out into an alleyway. Casey had to step over the body of a passed out and ratty looking human. She thought about eating him, but decided against it.

Casey noticed a couple of vampires across the street. She ran across the road, resulting in a couple honked horns. The vampire ignored them, and continued to the couple.

"Hello!" she called out to the pair of vampires holding hands. To the untrained eye they looked to be in their late teens/early twenties, but Casey could tell that they were a couple of decades older than that. Of course, the same mistake could be made about Casey. Although, the guess would be off by centuries, not decades.

At first they ignored Casey, not thinking that she was addressing them. Casey decided to take a peek into their minds in an effort to address them directly, resulting in her yelling, "Yoo-hoo! Gerald! Wassup?"

"Who are you?" asked the guy, Gerald, turning around.

"I'm your new best friend," Casey grinned, putting her arms around the necks of the younger vampires, forcing them to separate their linked hands.

"How did you know his name?" asked the girl, Sadie.

"Little peek in your noggins hope that was alright, dearie. Didn't want to make you have to introduce yourself, that's the boring bit. Though I suppose that I'll have to introduce myself. I'm Casey." Casey spoke fast, smiling all the time. Though the three stood there awkwardly in the middle of the sidewalk, none of the humans did anything other than simply walk around them and go on with their lives.

"Well, Casey," it was Gerald who spoke. "I am going to ask that you go away and leave us alone or I shall be forced to resort to violence."

"Ohh, you don't wanna do that." Casey leaned into his ear and whispered, "You'd looooooose."

"I doubt that." Gerald growled.

"Gerry, calm down, she's just trying to make conversation," Sadie interrupted him, a bit nervous. She could tell that Casey was older them. Among vampires, age brought power.

"See. I just want to talk." Casey said, though she hadn't previously made a point in defense of her actions.

"Casey, I do think that you should let go of him though." Sadie was scared that Casey would crush her boyfriend's neck.

"Alright." Casey dropped the arm which she'd had around Gerald, but kept the other around Sadie. "I apologize, Ger, for my actions. Its been a while since I've seen another vampire. Not sure how long, but still."

"What do you mean by that?" He asked, mildly concerned.

"Can I join you two to the Blood Bar?" Casey asked Sadie, ignoring the other's question.

"Of course." She shot a brief look to Gerald behind Casey's back to ward off any further protest from her boyfriend.

"Thank you. Nice to see that at least one of us has manners." Casey said, then turned to Gerald, "If you're wondering I was referring to Sadie."

"You're being rude-"

"A but but - I never said that I had manners, I said that Sadie did. Com'on Sadie, let's go have a snack."

Neither of the vampires questioned how Casey knew where they were going or why she was behaving this way. In all honesty, Casey didn't know why she was behaving in this manner either. Her best guess was that she simply wanted company.

Chapter Three

They eventually approached a little corner store, tucked away between a Barnes & Noble and a McDonalds. The automatic door opened, and the three bloodsuckers entered the small establishment. They headed towards the back, where they found a door which had a sheet of looseleaf paper haphazardly taped to it with the words "OuT oF oRDEr" scrawled across it in black sharpie.

"Come on, then." Gerald opened the door, and the three of them entered the small bathroom, which was indeed out of order. The toilet and sink were clearly broken, the walls were dirty, and the mirror was cracked.

The vampires ignored all of this and went towards the only wall that was completely bare from various bathroom appliances. The wall was like the door that'd led to the bar earlier, but it was much larger, designed for groups.

Before going through, Sadie explained, "It's a false wall. The owner rents a whole spell package with soundproofing and space folding. The witch providing it gives them a discount so long as no humans die."

Casey already knew this, but said nothing so as not to embarrass the other vampire. Once they were inside, Casey got the beginnings of an idea and decided to ditch the couple.

Though the establishment was referred to as the Blood Bar it contained no actual bar, at least not in the way a human might think. It was massive. The walls, ceiling, and floor were all white - save for a few blood stains. Close to the floor, mounted on the wall, there were chains attached to handcuffs attached to humans. The humans were all either unconscious and being fed off of, or just sitting there staring off at nothing.

Hanging from the ceiling, there was a variety of massive cages. The cages contained humans resting up, and being injected with the necessary nutrients they would need to live until the next feeding. The only source of light came from a variety of strategically pleased red laser lights, and there was loud music playing which drowned out all other noise.

There was a surprising number of vampires in the large room. The last time Casey had been here, the whole place had seemed much smaller. Come to think about it, this city never had so many vampires. Something must've happened to cause the population to explode like this. Or maybe this one location had become very popular through the Doors? It was hard to tell.

While she looked around, Casey slipped in and out of the minds of blood bar's inhabitants. No human or vampire was safe from her prying mind. She didn't go very far into anyone's mind and instead just glanced at surface thoughts, using them to gather a general idea of the area as it was now. The vampire also filed away some extra personal information about these people just in case it became useful in the future. One thing that Casey discovered was that she was the oldest being present at 707. The second oldest was only around 100 years.

Casey walked across the room to open a door set in the wall. It tried to blend into wall, but was easily identified by its slightly darker shade of white. The vampire opened the door, and walked in to see more dim whiteness. As she walked through the room, she noticed that there were walls and other square structures throughout the room. Based on their placing and the minds she could here, they were there to make it seem like the room was empty so that there was some privacy to be had.

Unlike the doors in the main room, there was virtually nothing to give away where there were other structures throughout the room. The few small circular lights scattered throughout the room seemed to be strategically placed in order to make this look like a large empty room. Though the soft light would have tricked most humans, younger vampires, and other beings, Casey could see the different structures with the help of her enhanced eyesight, and casually listening to the thoughts of the humans and other vampires in the room.

From these observations, Casey determined that in front of her, right by the entrance, there were two mini-rooms with small openings near the main walls of the massive square room for entry and departure. Using the ceiling and the two walls that the mini-rooms were pushed up against, a long, thin rectangular box of a room was suspended across the ceiling.

Casey stared up at it, and using the thoughts of the human located in it, she figured out where the opening was. Stepping forwards, the vampire lurched into a running jump, landing on the small box-shaped room on the right. The inhabitants of it didn't notice her landing, due to her soft landing and the sound-proofed nature of each room.

Casey looked directly upwards at the small circular disturbance in the floor of the suspended room. The circle had a diameter of about two and a half feet. Crouching down this time, Casey focused on her stance and where she wanted to go, then jumped. She rose through the air towards the opening, trying to make it through, and accidentally hit the space directly next to the opening. She fell flat on her back, uninjured and annoyed.

Groaning slightly in annoyance, Casey stood back up, straightened her jacket, and attempted the jump again. This time, she managed to get her upper body up through the hole. Before she fell, Casey grabbed onto the edge of the floor. As she pulled herself up to survey the room, Casey could feel the coldness of the subtle forcefield covering the entrance to hide noise and light from others in the main portion of the room.

The room was more brightly lit than what Casey had seen of the Blood Bar so far. It wasn't blinding fluorescents, but it wasn't dimmed deliberately to hide everything from others or laser pointers. The entire interior of the room was lined with plush dark red carpets. Scattered throughout the room were plush red pillows. Sitting on a pile of them in the corner of the room, reading a book, was a human. It saw Casey enter, and once she was standing, it closed the book and placed it next to where it sat.

It walked over to where Casey stood, and smiled up at her. The human wore only a set of thin, lacy undergarments, and the marks of pervious vampiric bites were visible across its shoulders.

"Haven't seen ya around before." It said in a soft, almost teasing voice. "Ya looking t'have some fun?"

"Just a private snack." Casey smiled, stepping forward towards the human and away from the hole.

The human stepped closer as well but moved around Casey to remove her jacket and whisper "Why don't ya take a seat first?" into her ear.

"Alright then. I wouldn't want to be rude." Casey quickly moved across the room and within seconds she was sitting atop the pile of pillows the human had previously been.

The human stared at empty space for a few moments before noticing that Casey had moved. After turning its head to see where the vampire had gone, it said, "Well that was fast."

Casey stretched out both her arms out to her sides, before dropping them again. "Thank you."

"What d'ya got?" the human asked her.

"What do you mean?" Casey asked it.

"If ya want a private feeding on a top level, then there's gotta be some kind of payment." The human explained.

"And why is that?" Casey asked. Though she could read the human's mind, she wanted to talk. The human was about to say it wasn't allowed to tell this vampire why, but with a little mental nudge Casey made the human talk.

"The owner of this bar made that rule. Most pay with money, and that all goes to him. Anything else we get to keep." The human explained.

"Well, I don't have any money." Casey thought a minute, not just in her own mind, and soon came up with an idea. "What about your friend Maddie?"

"What?" The human exclaimed, surprised about hearing the familiar name.

"You were first brought in here with your friend Maddie. You want her to be free of this place. Give me a snack, and I'll get her out of here."

"Ya won't hurt her will ya?"

"Of course not." Casey smiled.

"But- how did ya know about her?" The human asked, furrowing her brow in confusion.

"I can read minds," was the vampire's simple answer.

"Really? Huh. Never met someone who could do that."

"Well that's probably because all the vampires you've met so far are practically babies." Casey said, insulting every other visitor of the blood bar in one sentence.

"Alright, but what are you going to do to Maddie?" the human asked, moving the conversation back to its friend.

"I'll take her out of the cage, and bring her to a hospital. I'll erase her memories of this place, and contact her family. She'll be fine." Casey lied smoothly.

"Thank ya so much." The human finally moved over to where Casey was sitting. The human stood over Casey, and leaned down so that its shoulder was right in front of Casey's mouth. It crouched down to sit partially in front of Casey and partially in her lap. "She doesn't belong in this place and-"

Casey silenced the human's train of thought with a thought of her own, then pulled the human closer. Twisting the human's thoughts to feel not an ounce of pain and instead wander on the other end of the spectrum, she reached out to bite down on the human's neck.

Casey exited the room back to the main section of the blood bar and headed to the center of the room where she could see the whole room easily. The ceiling of this room was extremely high. From what she could see, the chains holding the cages were very short. She wouldn't be able to jump onto one of them from the floor, so the vampire walked towards the nearest wall.

As she neared it, she sped up. Once she was just a few feet away from it, she jumped towards a spot high up on the wall. The second her foot collided with the wall, she flipped around and propelled herself through the air towards the nearest cage. The empty metal box swung violently under her weight, urging her to jump onto the next cage over. This one had an inhabit. The weight of it combined with Casey's more gentle jump led to this cage moving just briefly before stopping - unlike the first one which was still swinging.

Casey stood on this cage, slightly crouched so as not to bang her head on the ceiling. At each of the four corners of each of the countless identical cages was a thick chain leading up to the ceiling to support it. Oddly enough, everything was extremely clean. Now that Casey was thinking about it, she realized that the whole bar had been clean. She'd never been to a blood bar where every surface wasn't coated in blood and grime. At least - she didn't think she had.

Shrugging it off, she looked through the thoughts of the unconscious humans resting in the cages, searching for the exact location of the one named Maddie. It didn't take long, and soon there was a row of swinging cages leading from that first one which Casey jumped on all the way to one in the far corner where a teenage female human lay unconscious.

>When Casey landed on this cage, she was more careful with her approach, so that it would remain still. There was a large square door on the top, secured with a pair of sliding bolt locks. Once those were pulled out of the way and the door was open, Casey dropped down into the cage slowly, grabbing onto the sides of the cage so that she didn't disturb the cage too much.

The floor of the cage was a flat sheet of metal covered with a thin rug. In the corner, there was the human wrapped up in a blanket. Sticking out of her arm was a needle, which was attached to a bag hanging from the bars of the ceiling of the cage. Casey walked over to where the human was, and carefully removed the needle.

Once it was out, she gently picked up the human and held it close to her body, still wrapped up in the blanket. Casey then teleported out of the blood bar.

Chapter Four

Laying on her back in the middle of a bed in a hotel room was the human known as Maddie. Standing a few feet away from the bed and staring at her was Casey, watching and waiting for her to wake up. Though the wait was long, she did eventually wake up.

The young girl sat up slowly and looked around the neat room. She could see Casey standing at the foot of the bed sipping a mug filled with reddish liquid.

Almost at a loss for words, Maddie pointed a shaky finger at the mug Casey held and asked, "What's in that?"

"Halfling blood. Not as good as human but what are you going to do?" She moved and placed the mug on the side table. "Now, I have a proposition for you. Would you like to become a vampire?"

Why would I want to become a vampire?" she looked disgusted.

"Well you've been living in the Blood Bar for around a year now and your family thinks that you're dead. You've got no friends other than that nice girl who's still in the Bar, and let's be honest, I can't exactly let you back into society with knowledge of the supernatural world." Casey could've easily removed the memories of the Blood Bar from Maddie's mind, but she decided to omit that information.

"I-"

"Think about the hassle it would be if you suddenly showed up at him spouting all this nonsense about vampires and such. It really wouldn't be good for anyone." Casey weaseled her way into the girl's mind, making her next words not truly consensual.

"Ok then. Make me a vampire." She pushed her long brown hair away from her neck.

"Gladly." Casey took her hands and bit the wrists, injecting a small amount of her vampiric venom. Then, she quickly bit her own wrists and pressed the wounds against the human's. After a few seconds her own wounds closed up. She stood up and after another moment the human began to writhe on the bed. Casey eased her way into her mind and calmed her down, causing her to pass out.

Roughly ten minutes later, Maddie sat up with more speed then she had when she sat up the first time. The marks Casey had left on her wrists had vanished. The blue in her eyes was gone, and replaced by a dull red.

She jumped nimbly off of the bed, and landed near Casey. Maddie stared down at the other vampire, really looking at her this time. Casey had the conventional "vampire appearance" that most humans use to stereotype - she had the pale skin and long black hair. On the clothing side - her look was a bit more modern than expected. Casey wore a pair of black skinny jeans, a black leather jacket, a tight dark grey t-shirt, and a pair of black sneakers.

Casey looked up at Maddie staring down at her. After a moment, she asked, "What?"

"Why am I a vampire?" she demanded, her head fuzzy.

"Well, we shared blood. That's how it works," Casey explained, smiling at the confusion that comes with being changed.

"I know how it works!" she exclaimed angrily, "I mean why did you do it?"

"Because I wanted to," Casey looked confused, "Is this a trick question?"

"Why me?" Maddie demanded.

"Cause you're pretty," Casey stated, smirking at the girl.

Angry, Maddie attempted to punch Casey. In a split second, Casey was standing on the opposite side of the room. She didn't teleport, didn't need to for such a short distance. It was simply walking that got her there, walking at such a speed was her original talent, and it was one she was proud of.

"Who are you?" Maddie asked, glaring at the unexpected speed. vv"I'm Casey. Nice to meet you." Casey smirked.

"Wish I could say the same," Maddie responded with a tight smile.

"Your vocal cords don't appear to be damaged," Casey pointed out, "So I'm sure you could."

Maddie glared at her, and opened her mouth to say something, but was interrupted by a knock at the door. "Room service!"

"Come in," Maddie called out.

"I don't think that's a very good idea," Casey called out, too late.

The door opened.

The poor woman was barely in the room before Maddie lost control and lunged at her, latching onto the side of her neck. Unfortunately, the human had let out a sizable scream before the painful and messy death. This scream attracted other humans, who came to watch in horror as Maddie fed.

One of the humans made his way to the front, where he gasped in horror. "Vampire!" he cried out.

"Where?" Casey sarcastically glancing around the room.

Her statement caused the human to notice her and her red eyes, "There's two of you?"

"Evidently so," Casey nodded, and watched Maddie. Several of the humans pulled out phones, and one of them called the police. "Maddie stand up."

Instantly and unwillingly, Maddie stood up. There was blood on her mouth, and she glared at Casey. "What-"

"Shhhh," Casey waved a finger around as her, and Sir Points Out The Obvious A Lot, who was about to make another statement. She walked over to where the mug was and picked it up.

"What's in there?" asked Points Out The Obvious A Lot.

Casey shrugged, "Why do you care?" She walked over to Maddie, grabbed her shoulder, and the two vanished in a flash.

The vampire and her fledgling appeared in a clearing in a forest just a mile outside of town. Casey was glad that it was still here.

"Where are we?" Maddie asked in confusion.

Casey reached over, and placed her hands on Maddie's shoulder to steady her. Once Maddie's focus was clearly on Casey, she said, "We're in a forest."

It didn't take Maddie very long to process what was said, but once she did, she growled in anger, and tried to take a swing at Casey.

Casey laughed, and in the blink of an eye, she'd run up a nearby tree where she now sat with her legs dangling and her gaze on Maddie. "Before we do anything," she began, "You are going to need to learn how to control yourself around humans, we can't have you attacking people just because you're hungry."

"And how are you doing to do that?" Maddie placed her hands upon her hips, glaring up at Casey. "Am I supposed to hunt animals?"

"No. That's disgusting."

"Ok, what am I supposed to do, then?" Maddie demanded as she began to slowly wander around the circular clearing.

"You could try meditating?" Casey offered.

"Meditating?" Maddie repeated in disbelief.

"Yeah, Sit down, close your eyes and focus your senses."

Maddie unwillingly obeyed each command. The simple action of sitting down, and closing her eyes, was completely devoid of free will. She suspected why she could not control her own body when faced by a direct command, as she'd heard senior vampires in the blood bar brag about things that they'd made their fledglings do.

After some time had elapsed Maddie asked, "What is the point of this?"

"What is the point of anything?" Casey mused absentmindedly, now lying on her back with her spine aligned with the tree branch, and one leg dangling off either side.

Maddie grumbled slightly under her breath in annoyance, then clarified with, "I mean what is the point of me sitting here?"

Casey lifted her head up, and looked down at the top of Maddie's shaggy brunette head as if she'd just remembered that the girl was there. "Wut?"

"What is the point of me sitting here?" Maddie repeated louder in annoyance.

"I dunno," Casey dropped her head back down. "You don't have to."

With those words, Maddie swayed to the side, and nearly fell over. She opened her eyes, and stood up, legs a bit wobbly from sitting so long. Glancing around the clearing, her eyes readjusting, she noticed the mug at the foot of the tree Casey laid in.

"Why'd you throw the mug on the floor?" she asked up at Casey's silhouette.

"For the pixys," came the response.

"Pixies?" Maddie echoed incorrectly.

"Nope. The pixys."

"What's the difference?" Maddie asked, confused.

"A pixie is a tall, thin, green-skinned, hairless abomination with butterfly wings that likes to kidnap children - regardless of species. A pixy is a tiny, harmless wood sprite that likes to eat glass and plastic - don't ask me why." Casey explained, staring up at the slowly darkening sky.

Maddie nodded quietly. After moment, she had a question. "Are there other creatures?"

"Yeah. It'd take ages to name them all, though. All you really need to know is that vampires are around the top, humans are at the bottom, and try not to annoy a witch." Casey shifted slightly to avoid falling.

"Why?"

"Why what?" Casey shifted her position again, this time so that she was on her stomach, with her limbs dangling off either side of the branch. She looked down at Maddie, waiting for the fledgling's response.

"If were at the top, then why do we need to be careful about witches?" Maddie clarified.

"Thought that'd be obvious!" Casey exclaimed.

"Well, it isn't." Maddie placed her hands on her hips and glared up at Casey. "Spill."

"A vampire has certain abilities. While those abilities are powerful, they are few for most. A witch has access to an wide range of spells. No mater how powerful a witch is, no mater their experience, they always have access to these spells. A witch can do whatever they want, and if you piss off... well let's just say you don't want to piss one off," Casey concluded her explanation with a smile.

"Witches seem more powerful then vampires," Maddie pointed out. "Why aren't they at the top?"

"Because a smart vampire can beat a witch in a fight. Anyways they're close to the top like us."

Maddie changed the subject. "What about werewolves? Do they exist?"

"Yes, they do. I don't see why you would be interested in them, though," Casey answered.

"Why not?" Maddie inquired.

"Werewolves are not very powerful. All they can do is turn into a wolf, and only once a month. They're like shapeshifters, but more boring." Casey explained then thoughtfully said, "Now a werewalf - there's a powerful creature."

"What the hell is a 'werewalf?'" Maddie looked up at Casey with a look of utter confusion.

"A werewalf is a phantom being that likes to feast on human flesh. Through the eyes of a supernatural being, they are seen in their true form - a shadowy beast. Through the eyes of a human," she smirked, "They look like rabbits."

"Rabbits?" Maddie echoed in disbelief.

"Yeah. Roughly 80% of 'rabbits' that humans see are actually werewalves."

"This is absurd." Maddie crossed her arms.

"Life is absurd," Casey agreed.

After that, the two stayed their in silence. Maddie was wondering how she'd gotten herself into this mess, and Casey was just trying to take a nap.

Chapter Five

"So." Maddie said after a while.

"So... what?" Casey asked. She was sitting with her back against the tree trunk - one leg hanging off the side, the other stretched out in front.

"What about the humans?"

"Which humans?" Casey responded, confused.

"The humans that saw-"

She trailed off, and Casey waited her for her to continue. When she didn't, Casey said, "Saw what?"

Casey knew what she was referring to, but it was always important for a fledgling to come to terms with their new reality. A lot of times, when they didn't, they ended up trying to starve themselves. This usually results in fairly bloody attacks on humans. Sometimes, they purposely told humans (usually their former family and friends) about the supernatural existence. Both of which usually result in a chaos that would be dealt by either Rin or The Council.

"What about the humans who saw me attack that woman?" She forced out.

"I erased their memories of you. You don't have to worry." Casey lied, realizing that she'd forgotten.

"What about their phones?"

"What?" Casey looked down at her, mildly confused.

She looked up at me from where she sat on the forest floor, cross legged. "Some of the humans had there phones out, and were probably filming me."

Casey paused, still confused, then remembering the information she'd gotten from some recent humans she went, "Oh yeah! Phones can record video now."

Maddie walked to the base of the tree and looked up at Casey, "You didn't know that?"

She shook her head.

"Where have you been living? Under a rock?" Maddie accused the elderly vampire.

"Maybe." Casey admitted. Maddie gave her a weird look. "What? I was kinda murdered and it took me forever to get Satan to let me out."

"Satan is real, too?" Maddie asked, trying to figure out which new information to focus on.

"Yeah," Casey replied. "We're friends."

"How did you become friends with Satan?" she asked.

"That is a long story." Casey dropped down from the tree, "Now, how about we get you some new clothes?"

"Uh. Sure..." she said, unsure.

"Great." Casey grabbed her wrist, then teleported them both back to the city, directly outside of a department store. "Come on." Casey dragged her in the store, and up to the front desk.

"Hello how may I help-" the cashier trailed off when she saw the dried blood on Maddie. "-you."

"I was wondering if you had any clothes that would fit her?" Casey nodded in Maddie's direction, whose red eyes were pulsing with mild bloodlust. Casey noticed this, and remembered that most fledglings have extreme difficulty keeping themselves calm around human beings. Playing it up in front of the human cashier, she said, "Pet, we talked about this. You have to say calm around humans, ok."

"How the hell am I supposed to do that?" she demanded through clenched teeth.

"Just calm down, and think about something else?" Casey suggested.

She started thinking about the forest, which was good. She was also thinking "Should we really be exposing ourselves to humans like this?"

Casey thought I'm going to wipe her mind after, and the security cameras - don't worry, then sent the thought to Maddie's mind.

She took an unnecessary deep breath, and nodded.

"Ok." Casey turned to the human again. "As I said, do you have anything that would fit her?"

She didn't speak, and was reaching for a shiny red phone.

"You don't wanna do that."

She tried to started dialing.

Casey sighed, and went into the humans mind, forcing her to drop the phone. It was pathetically easy - humans have such weak minds. When Casey removed the fear from the human's mind, she was much more compliant.

In almost no time at all, Maddie was wearing a clean pair of jeans, tank top, and hoodie - all in black. Casey insisted that proper vampires must blend in with the night. She still wore the same sneakers from before.

Before we left the store, Casey wiped the human's mind of the visit. She also left her with a set of compulsive instructions to destroy the security footage of us.

"Come on," Casey dragged Maddie out of the store. They headed down the street, and entered an Apple Store.

"What are we doing here?" the fledgling asked.

Apparently, I'm crawling out from under a rock."

Chapter Six

A few seconds after the two entered the store, a low voice said, "Welcome, how may I help you."

Casey pushed Maddie towards the employee. "You can help her." Though Casey had learned about modern technology through the thoughts of humans, she wasn't comfortable with it quite yet.

Maddie didn't say anything, and was instead staring at the employee. As a human, Maddie had never seen any supernatural creatures, and instead just saw human glamours. Now that she was a vampire, she'd be able to see through those disguises, which could get a bit distracting.

"How may I help you?" The employee, whose tag identified him as 'Mike,' repeated. The employee was a goblin standing on a stool behind the customer help desk. His skin was a purplish-brown with lumpy texture. He was bald, and his ears were large and pointed at the ends. "Wait a second, you two look familiar."

"What do you mean?" Maddie asked.

"Hang on." Mike pulled out a phone and showed a video of Maddie attacking that human from earlier. The video stopped, and Mike asked, "Why didn't you destroy the footage or something? I thought you vamps were really careful about hiding yourselves from humans."

"Says the goblin wearing the class-9 glamour." Casey muttered, appalled at the terrible disguise.

He rolled his eyes, and shook his head.

"So, what are you doing here, anyway?" Mike asked the two vampires.

"I think to get her a phone?" Maddie pointed at Casey, confused. The only logical explanation was that the older vampire wanted a phone, but Maddie was still a bit uncertain.

Mike shrugged. "As long as you have money, I don't care."

"Do you have money?" Maddie asked Casey, not wanting to get kicked out of the store.

Casey looked up from the box that she'd been examining and said, "I probably have about 2000 U.S. dollars on me."

"So what phone model are you looking for?" Mike asked, happy that these vampires weren't just going to steal like the superior creatures were known to do.

"What about this?" Casey held up a model at random. It was an iPhone 6s.

"Awesome," was Maddie's response. She was looking forward to leaving.

Casey grabbed two boxes, then put her hand on Maddie's shoulder and teleported them out of the building and onto the top of a skyscraper on the other side of town.

Casey sat down on the edge, and started tearing apart the phone package. When the device was free, she turned on the phone, and started setting it up. She looked up to see Maddie staring. "What?"

She shook her head. "Less than a half hour ago you barely even knew what a phone was."

Casey pointed to her head. "Hello? I have telepathy."

"Wouldn't you have found this out a while ago? Like when phones first became a thing? " Maddie asked.

"Did I not mention the rock?" Casey looked back at the phone.

"Yeah. Something about Satan?" she said, confused.

"Yeah. I was murdered by my ex. Took me a while to befriend Satan and let him to get me out of there," Casey explained.

"You did what?"

"I made friends with the Lord of Hell." Casey noticed that the phone had finished loading, and picked it back up.

"What are you doing?" Maddie asked, looking over her shoulder.

"Stealing the wifi password, and apple account of a couple of witches living in one of the apartments in this building we're sitting on top of." Casey stated as-a-matter-of-factly.

"Witches?" She started opening her own phone.

Casey nodded.

She shook her head. What have I gotten myself into? she thought.

"Rin would have a field day with this," Casey said a few minutes later while scrolling through YouTube.

"Who?" Maddie asked, confused.

"She's a vampire. She gets hired to kill people who expose the supernatural community to humans. Well, I say 'hired'. Really its more like a long, long time ago she was ordered to and hasn't stopped since." Casey explained.

"You were away from earth for well over a decade, how would you know wether or not she's still doing this?" Maddie questioned.

"How do you know how long I was away?" Casey asked.

"You've been away long enough not to know about cameras in phones - or really modern phones in general - but you know about security cameras. This indicates you've been away for roughly 2 decades." She reasoned.

The senior vampire nodded. "True, true." I looked over at her, then back out at the busy human city in front of us. "The way I know is that Rin has been doing this for almost a thousand years, and I doubt she's going to stop anytime soon. Regardless, she likes to take jobs as a hitman that actually pay."

"Vampire hitman?"

"She likes killing people." Casey glanced back down at the phone screen in my hands. "Why won't this verifyyyyy?"

"Sounds like a nice person." Maddie mused.

"Look." Casey held up her phone for Maddie to look at.

"What?" She examined the page. "'The age you have entered is not acceptable,'" she read out loud. Maddie gave Casey a look. "You entered you actual age?"

"Yeah." Casey brought the phone back down to her lap.

"Casey, humans don't live that long." She chided her sarcastically.

"I know, I know." Casey said, adjusting the date.

"It's probably a failsafe for any underaged kids making an account." Maddie reasoned.

"Shut up." Casey ordered her, offended at being compared to children.

She immediately silenced.

they both sat there for a while, not really speaking. The only sounds came from the life and vehicles down below. Maddie logged on to her old accounts, and updated them all. She viewed messages from friends, but didn't say anything. Casey made a variety of social media accounts, and posted small starter updates on all of them.

When she'd finished, Casey turned to Maddie and was about to say something to her, when she caught a whiff of a human. True, she'd been smelling the humans down on the streets below this building we sat upon, but this particular one had captured her full concentration.

Casey stood up, and slid the phone in her back pocket. She turned around, and jumped down from the elevated ledge and onto the roof.

"You stay here until I get back." Casey ordered Maddie.

"Where are you going?" She asked.

"To hunt." Casey said calmly, "I'm still hungry."

Chapter Seven

Instead of teleporting down to the street, Casey went over to the side of the building that and jumped onto the wall of the adjacent one. From there, she jumped back and forth between the two tall buildings until she reached the ground.

Casey stood there in the middle of the alleyway watching for her prey. The second it passed in front of the alley's entrance, she lunged and dragged it into the dark path.

The prey was a well-dressed werewolf. It was very short, indicating that it must've been a very low-level member of its pack. That didn't matter much to Casey. Next to Human and Halfling blood, Werewolf blood was the best. All those legends about vampires changing shape? That came from the blood of Werewolves. The best part was that a vampire could feed on a Werewolf and have the effects last for months.

"Please don't kill me," the werewolf pleaded, smelling the mixed blood within Casey indicating that she was a vampire.

"Well, I was going to, but since you asked so nicely, I've decided against it," Casey agreed.

"Really?" The werewolf appeared both shocked and pleased at Casey's response.

Casey smiled, "No." The vampire lunched at the lesser creature, and bit into his neck. Casey covered his mouth to stifle his screams as he was subjected to having his blood sucked out by the elder being. After a while, the werewolf corpse was dropped to the ground, and Casey transformed into a bat. She flew back up to the top of the roof, and landed next to Maddie.

Maddie jumped, startled as the bat melted into the more familiar form of Casey, the humanoid bloodsucker.

"Did you have fun feeding?" Maddie asked nervously, trying to be polite.

"Oh, yes. Yes I did." Casey went to wipe imaginary blood from her face. The blood that had spilled onto it just before had fallen off when she had transformed her body into the smaller winged form. Luckily, the vampire had remembered the skill of hiding her clothes along with her real body so she did not reform naked.

"Alright." Maddie turned back to the phone.

"What have you been doing?" Casey asked her.

"I've been updating all of my old social media," answered the fledgling.

"Are you sure that that's a good idea?" Casey squinted down at her before sitting next to Maddie. "Pretty sure people think you're dead."

"That's why I'm updating stuff."

"But won't they wonder where you've been?" Casey pointed out.

"If anyone asks, I'll just tell them the truth."

Casey inhaled. "You better hope that Rin doesn't hear you say that."

"Who's Rin?" Maddie asked.

"She's my ex. She's in charge of making sure that humans don't find out about this world. If they do, then its game over. I mean there's a couple of humans that probably know, but the majority shouldn't know." Casey explained, her eyes narrowing at the memory of Rin.

"Why does it matter if humans know about the supernatural world?" Maddie wondered aloud.

"Because it would cause a panic for the bottom of the food chain to realize their place. For them to realize that the majority of unsolved murders and missing person cases are the result of magical beings. Well, that's what the council says anyways. Personally, I don't care who finds out." Casey was frustrated by the memories Rin and what she had done to her. She jumped off of the roof, transforming into a bat.

Casey swooped around the corpse in the alley and out around the tall buildings that made up the city. She flew past neon lights and human heads and animals and buildings of all shapes and sizes. There was a huge dome-shaped structure, and countless rectangular buildings with rectangular boxes of light scattered across their sides. She flew and flew, finding the freedom exhilarating. This was what she was resurrected for. This is why Earth was worth it. For this kind of experience. And she would pass it on to her new vampiric apprentice.

Casey landed on a curved lamppost. She dangled by her bat claws, which melted into a pair of hands as she dropped down onto the sidewalk in her humanoid form. The vampire felt a bit bad about briefly abandoning Maddie, but she needed some time on her own.

The problem with being alone was that the thoughts you don't want to think about end up at the front of your mind. Rin. Little old Rin. Rin was older than Casey by a couple centuries, Casey wasn't sure how many, and she looked like a little kid. She has black hair and the perpetually red eyes of a well-fed vampire.

Casey slowly made her way back to the building which sat beneath Maddie, and when she got there, she saw that there were human police officers around the werewolf body. They were puzzled as to how he lost so much blood.

Casey changed back into the bat form to go around them, and landed back on the roof.

Chapter One

Mist creeped around the edges of a large cemetery. In the midst of the endless rows of tombstones was a young vampire by the name of Casey. Though the one she sat balanced atop of was one of the older rocks, it was massive and had managed to escape the crumbling nature of age - unlike many other grave markers that filled the yard.

The reason the vampire had come to this location was because the logic that her scattered mind had created was that this was the most likely place for a human to show up. Humans were obsessed with life and death, and frequently come to graveyards to say goodbye and cry over the bodies of their loved ones. Though humans came to cemeteries in groups during the day, they often came at night alone, making them easy prey.

As she sat there, trying to collect more of her own thoughts, Casey caught a whiff of fresh human blood. The second she smelled it, her head turned in the direction of the smell. With her excellent vampiric eyesight, she could see through the fog and make out the outline of a human entering the graveyard in the distance. As the human moved through to its destination, Casey lightly reached out with her mind to track the human's progress as efficiently as possible.

Casey slipped down from the stone, and started to make her way across the soft damp grass to where the human sat in front of a fresh grave. As she quietly slunk across the massive place to the human, Casey listened to the human's thoughts to see what she could do with the knowledge in the human's head. There was information about new technologies, but Casey ignored this and instead focused on more personal information.

She searched for names and nicknames - some of the most important elements for manipulation. Casey quickly discovered that the human was named Brianna. The reason it was here was because it was grieving over the loss of a loved one who had died in a tragic car crash.

When she was standing directly behind the oblivious crying girl, Casey yanked out a familiar phrase, bringing it to the top of the human's thoughts, making it believe that the other was speaking directly to it.

"Hey Bri-Bri. Wassup?"

The human looked around wildly. After searching the space in front of it, it turned around on its butt to find itself staring at a pair of dark, dirty, ripped, jeans. Its frightened gaze traced the body upwards where it saw a pale, unfamiliar face framed with long, black hair. "Who-who are you?"

Casey shrugged, trying not to laugh. "Who are you?"

"My name is Brianna-" the human began, but Casey held up a finger, silencing it.

"This is not what I asked. I asked you for who you are, not for your name." Casey dropped her hand, smirking. "I suppose it does not matter who you are, you'll be dead soon anyways."

"Dead? What do you mean by that?" Brianna asked, fearing the answer.

"Well I was going to talk to you first." Casey began, delaying her answer to the question. "But then you answered incorrectly, so I'll have to kill you."

Before Brianna could do anything to get away, Casey had crouched down so that she was at eye level with the human. She reached out to grab the human, restraining it as she bit down on the human's neck with a pair of white fangs that gleamed in the dim light of the full moon cutting through the thick fog. The human tried to struggle, tried to scream, but Casey wouldn't let her. The pathetic efforts quickly faded, and had stopped long before the vampire was satisfied.

Once the human was emptied of its blood, Casey let go of it and stood up. She walked away from it, leaving it for any passing werewalves to snack on, stumbling slightly as she moved. A smile spread across Casey's face as she thought about what to do with the new strength when the obvious thought came - go to town. In town there were things to do, there might even be a Door.

Concentrating, Casey focused her energy to move to the nearby town. She disappeared in a flash of light, then appeared in an alleyway adjacent to a busy street crawling with humans. After wandering down the street for a few blocks, Casey found herself standing in front of a massive concrete wall decorated with scribbles of graffiti.

Towards the middle of the wall, there was an outline of a door - a nearly invisible rectangle set in the wall that would be unnoticed by any human walking by. Casey, however, was a bit more observant than your average human, and knew to rest her hand on a space within the rectangle, and to quickly jump in through the threshold so as not to be noticed or get caught in the wall when it returned.

Chapter Two

The area that Casey had ended up in was a small bar. The floor and walls all looked to be made of a dark wood - but was probably just enchanted to take on the appearance. Or not. Sometimes its hard to tell with hidden rooms. Casey walked over to the bar to sit in one of the tall red bar stools. The cushion moved slightly as she sat down. Grinning slightly, Casey moved her leg so that she spun around on the swivel chair.

After a few rotations, she noticed that she was not alone in the room. She stopped and stared across the room at a pair of tall, thin, beings with pale green skin sitting at a table in the corner. They each bore a pair of massive transparent butterfly wings which protruded from their backs, and they each wore a pair of dark red shorts. There was no hair to be seen on either of them, and the only distinguishable difference between the two was the arrangement of the tiny dots located atop both of their heads. The dots were a deep purple, the same color as their bright eyes.

Casey watched them, listening as they conversed in light, high-pitched voices. The vampire struggled to name these semi-familiar creatures, but was left only with a feeling of distaste for their existence. She could remember hating them, and after listening to the floaty, inconsequential dialogue coming out of their mouths, she could see why. After watching them for a short while, Casey found the name - pixies.

Casey was soon distracted by the movement of the bartender, a minotaur, showing up seemingly out of nowhere. He placed a cup filled with neko blood in front of Casey, nodded to her, then walked away to do something else. Though the cattish blood was a chilled delicacy that most vampires loved, Casey was a particularly pick vampire when it came to which species she snacked on.

Casey flicked the wooden mug over, gaining the attention of the pixies for the first time when they were alerted by the noise. The vampire slunk down from the seat, and walked across the room over to the Door. It was not the impression which had gained her entry to the place, but an actual door. It was old and wooden, and led to a place where Casey was eager to go for it was somewhere she could not remember the last time she had gone.

Standing in front of the Door, was a troll. The furry little creature wore a dark suit, and stood at barely three feet tall, over two feet shorter than the vampire. She stared down at him as he took on a wide stance, his arms crossed in front of him in a futile attempt to appear menacing to the bigger being.

He looked up at Casey and growled, "Do you have a pass? No one gets through without a pass."

"I don't know what you're talking about, but I'm sure you can make an exception for me." Casey smiled innocently.

"You can't go into the Space without a pass," he repeated in the same low growl.

Casey dropped the smile, then sighed. She looked around the room, then back at the troll, annoyed. "Just let me go through."

His grotesque features contorting into a sneer the troll tested his luck with one last remark. "You got a pass?"

Frustrated, Casey grabbed the troll by his jacket, and threw him across the room. Before he could get up, or shout at her, or do anything really, Casey had opened the door. She ran into the WorldSpace, tripping into the new gravity. After picking herself up off the cobblestone path, Casey stood up, and quickly picking up the door she'd just come through, dropping it to slam it closed.

Casey took a few too many steps backwards, resulting in her walking onto a nearby door. It began to sag slightly under her weight, and was about to open before she jumped back onto the cobblestone pathways which bordered the doors. Casey then began to wander the WorldSpace aimlessly, hoping that the troll wouldn't come through to annoy her further.

The WorldSpace is a strange creation made and run by witches. It's a massive sphere with a small glowing orb at the center from which it gets its light and center of gravity. The WorldSpace is lined with doors, which are surrounded by stone pathways that any passing demon or mortal may walk on.

Each of these doors exists in two locations at once. First, they exist in the floor of the WorldSpace, and second, they exist in a location somewhere on Earth. Doors can not be destroyed by anyone except the witch that originally created it. This can often lead to confused humans who wonder why occasional doors will inexplicably remain stationary in the air when a building is destroyed.

There are circular tunnels that branch off from all the spheres that make up the WorldSpace. The doors lining these tunnels will lead to two different Earths, the ones on either side of the tunnel. If one were to look down at the WorldSpace from the nonexistent location surrounding it, and if that one was big enough to see the whole thing (which would be impossible due to its endlessness) they might observe that the whole network looks similar to a model of a molecule you might find in an American high school classroom.

Anyways, deep within one particular, insignificant sphere - a vampire wandered, looking for someplace to go.

After walking for some time, Casey arrived at the edge of the floor. Casey was standing in a position to see the extent of the large circle which marked where the floor curved downwards into the circular hallway resting perpendicular to the WorldSpace bubble Casey stood in. The vampire reached her hand down through the threshold, but quickly yanked it back as she felt herself being pulled into the tunnel's unique gravity.

Casey walked around the perimeter of the tunnel, staring down at the creatures wandering around in the distance, trying to get to wherever they were going. She looked up again to see some others halfway across her own bubble milling about. It was a quite day for WorldSpace travel.

It took roughly half an hour for Casey to grow sick of the strong sent of incense filing the Space, and choose a door to go back to Earth. The door she chose was newer and made of a smooth shiny metal. When Casey tried to open the door, she found that she had some trouble pulling it up.

Unbeknownst to her, this door was charmed with protection spells to prevent intruders from going through. This possibility didn't even cross the mind of the stubborn vampire as she used all of her supernatural strength to open the door. When she finally managed to open the door, she was sucked through into the newer, stronger gravity of the witch home.

As Casey clumsily picked herself up off of a kitchen floor, grabbing onto a nearby chair to steady herself, the door slammed shut behind her. When she was finally standing, she found that she was not alone in the small room, for there was a pair of witches sitting at a table at the center of the room. One was six years old. She wore all black, a long red cape, and slipped down from her seat upon the sight of Casey when she entered. The other was fifteen, wore a pair of jeans, a read hoodie, and an annoyed expression.

Stopping in front of Casey, the younger, Ashlyn, asked, "Who are you?"

Casey crouched down so that the two were at eye level. In a high, friendly tone she answered, "My name is Casey. What about you?"

The little girl lifted her cape, and declared, "I am The Magnificent Ash, and this," she gestured towards her grumpy sister, "is The Less Magnificent Helda."

"Well, it's nice to meet you, Ash," Casey shook the little girl's hand when she presented it, then stood up. Walking over to the other with her hand still outstretched she continued with, "You too, Less Mag-"

"What are you doing here?" Helda demanded.

"I was looking for somewhere to go." Casey responded, dropping her arm, and taking on a hurt expression.

"I mean how did you get here?"

Before Helda could continue with her impending rant, Casey took the brief pause to point behind herself and say, "Through the door."

The older witch glared at her, and said through gritted teeth. "I mean that door has a dozen protection spells and charms keeping it closed. How could you have possibly gotten through? And even if some of them were weak there's no way you didn't meet some resistance. Why didn't you go to a different door when you first tried to open it? Why did you still go through? What do you want, vampire?"

"Well, um." Casey looked around the room, a bit surprised at the outburst. "Well first of all, I had no way of knowing that someone would have a door to the WorldSpace in their living room. Second of all, I thought the door might just be stuck? And I don't want anything to do with you? I really have no idea what you're talking about, so, uh, I'm just gonna leave if that's ok with you." Casey walked over to the window. She looked out to see another building just outside. The room she was in appeared to be in one of the higher floors of an apartment complex. She turned around to face the witches again, gave a little wave then said, "Bye."

"Bye Caysee!" Ashlyn waved at the flash of light that remained in the air a few seconds after Casey teleported down to the street below.

"Don't wave to that thing." Helda growled at her sister as she pulled a small book out of the pocket of her hoodie.

"What are you doing with that?" Ashlyn asked.

"I'm telling mom that the Door's protections are faulty." She answered as she continued to search through the spell book for the communication spells.

Down below in the alleyway between two massive brick apartment building stood Casey, slightly weaker from her teleportation down onto the sidewalk. As she left the alleyway, she knew that she'd have to feed again.

Chapter Three

"Demon!"

Casey spun around to see a drunken homeless man standing further into the alleyway. It was pointing at Casey, arm outstretched and finger pointing at her dull red eyes. It was wearing torn, dirty clothes, and held in his opposite hand a bottle wrapped up in a wrinkled paper bag.

Casey mimicked its slouched stance, and began to stagger towards it, shouting, "Human! Human!"

It screamed, and continued running down so that it was trapped against the wall at the end of the alleyway. Casey stared at him, considering its death, but eventually deciding against it. It was too easy of a target, having backed himself into a corner, and she still had the blood of the human girl from earlier running through her veins. She turned around and headed out onto the street, sparing the life of this particular human.

The vampire knew that with the rate she was using it up, it wouldn't take very long for the usefulness of the red elixir to burn away, but still chose to exit the alleyway and refrain from attacking this particular human. As she wandered down the various streets, she listened to the thoughts of the humans running past to go to their predetermined locations to act out whatever was planned to be next on their agendas.

Casey also took this to be an opportunity to become familiar with this town, locating various complexes and shops and most importantly - the hospital. She didn't want to cause too much of a mess in this city until she knew for sure who or what lived here. She stole a map from an outdoor shop, and was inspecting it when she caught the scent of the mixed, stale blood of vampires.

She wandered across the street, resulting in a couple honked horns. The vampire ignored them, and continued to her destination.

"Hello!" she called out to a pair of vampires holding hands. Though any human would assume them each to be around the age of eighteen based upon their appearances, they'd both been walking the Earth for the past forty years. Same with Casey, who'd been around a few more centuries than those same humans would guess.

At first they ignored Casey, not thinking that she was addressing them but when she yelled, "Yoo-hoo! Gerald!

"Gerry, calm down, she's just trying to make conversation," Sadie interrupted him.

"See." Casey said, though she hadn't previously made a point in defense of her actions.

"Casey, I do think that you should let go of him though."

Com'on Sadie, let's go have a snack." She pulled at the younger vampire, and they began their trek to the city's blood bar. Sadie politely conversed with Casey, and Gerald followed the two, muttering in frustration.

Chapter Four

They eventually approached a little corner store, tucked away between a Barnes & Noble and a McDonalds. The automatic door opened, and the three red-eyed bloodsuckers entered the small establishment.

Though she recognized the slight shimmer in the wall that indicated the presence of such a device, Casey nodded and said, "Cool," to appease the other vampire's hope for a surprised reaction. They all stepped through the wall, and it didn't take very long for Casey grow bored of the other vampires and run off to explore the blood bar without explanation.

Though the establishment was referred to as a "blood bar," it contained no actual bar, at least not in the way a human might think.

Most blood bars that Casey had been to were much smaller and therefore contained less vampires. The best guess that Casey could come up with was that this city had at one point become a breeding ground for vampires, and they'd all just hung around leading to some vampire - likely the original - getting rich and developing this blood bar.

While she looked around, Casey slipped in and out of the minds of blood bar's inhabitants. No human or vampire was safe from her prying mind. She didn't go very far into anyone's mind and instead just glanced at surface thoughts, using them to gather a general idea of this place and how it operates. The vampire also filed away some extra personal information about these people just in case it became useful in the future. One thing that Casey discovered was that she was the oldest being present at 403. The second oldest was around 100 years.

The human was about to say it wasn't aloud to tell this vampire why, but with a little mental nudge Casey made the human talk.

"Well that's probably because all the vampires you've met so far are practically babies." Casey said, insulting evert other visitor of the blood bar in one sentence.

Chapter Five

Laying on her back in the middle of a bed in a hotel room was the human known as Maddie. Standing a few feet away from the bed and staring at her was Casey, watching and waiting for her to wake up. Though the wait was long, she did eventually wake up.

Chapter Six

Roughly ten minutes later, Maddie sat up with more speed then she had when she sat up the first time. The mark Casey had left on her cheek, and the bite marks that had been on her neck and shoulders had all vanished.

"Why am I a vampire?" she demanded.

"Well, I drank some of your blood, and you drank some of mine. That's kind of how it works," Casey explained.

"I know how it works!" she exclaimed angrily, "I mean why did you do it?"

"Because I wanted to," Casey looked confused, "Is this a trick question?"

"Why me?" Maddie demanded.

"Cause you're pretty," Casey stated.

"I'm Casey.

"Room service!"v"Come in," Maddie called out.

"I don't think that's a very good idea," Casey called out, too late.

The door opened.

Chapter Seven

The poor woman was barely in the room before Maddie lunged at her, latching onto the side of her neck.

"What-"

Shhhh," Casey waved a finger around as her, and Sir Points Out The Obvious A Lot, who was about to make another statement. She simply walked over to the minibar, and pulled out a plastic bag. The bag was filled with blood bags that she'd borrowed from a nearby hospital.

"What's in there?" asked Points Out The Obvious A Lot.

Casey shrugged, "Why do you care?" She walked over to Maddie, grabbed her shoulder, and the two vanished in a flash.

Chapter Eight

The vampire and her fledgling appeared in a clearing in a forest just a mile outside of town. Casey knew that it was here, because she'd taken the time to do a little bit of research about the area before Maddie woke up.

"Where are we?" Maddie asked in confusion.

Casey reached over, and placed her hands on Maddie's shoulder to steady her, the plastic bag full of blood twisting around the elder vampire's finger.

She leaned over to a nearby branch, and tied the handles of the plastic bag around it. "Before we do anything," she began, "You are going to need to learn how to control yourself around humans, we can't have you attacking people just because you're hungry."

"And how are you doing to do that?" Maddie placed her hands upon her hips, glaring up at Casey. "Am I supposed to hunt animals? Or are you going to throw down one of those packets?"

"No! They're mine!" Casey exclaimed, reaching over to grab a blood bag out of the bag bag, then tying the bag bag back to the tree. "I need them more than you do."

"Ok, what am I supposed to do, then?" Maddie demanded as she began to slowly wander around the circular clearing.

"You could try meditating?" Casey offered.

"Meditating?" Maddie repeated in disbelief.

"Yeah," Casey's voice was slightly muffled as she was attempting to tear open the bag with her teeth. "Siddown, close yr eyez and focus yr senzes."

Though the words were mostly unintelligible, Maddie obeyed each command. The simple action of sitting down, and closing her eyes, was completely devoid of free will. She suspected why she could not control her own body when faced by a direct command, as she'd heard senior vampires in the blood bar brag about things that they'd made their fledglings do.

After some time had elapsed, and multiple blood bags had been emptied and thrown onto the ground, Maddie asked, "What is the point of this?"

"What is the point of anything?" Casey mused absentmindedly, now lying on her back with her spine aligned with the tree branch, and one leg dangling off either side.

Maddie grumbled slightly under her breath in annoyance, then clarified with, "I mean what is the point of me sitting here?"

Casey lifted her head up, and looked down at the top of Maddie's shaggy blonde head as if she'd just remembered that the girl was there.

Glancing around the clearing, her eyes readjusting, she noticed the plastic baggies at the foot of the tree Casey laid in.

"Why'd you throw the bags on the floor?" she asked up at Casey's silhouette.

A pixy is a tiny, harmless wood sprite that likes to eat plastic - don't ask me why." Casey explained, staring up at the slowly darkening sky.

Maddie nodded quietly. After moment, she had a question. "Are there other creatures?"

"Yeah. It'd take ages to name them all, though. All you really need to know is that vampires are at the top, humans are at the bottom, and try not to annoy a witch." Casey shifted slightly to avoid falling.

"The most powerful being in existence is currently a vampire. Whichever species contains the most powerful being is at the top, according to The Council." Casey paused, then continued by saying, "The witches are dying out, anyways. the wizards keep tricking them into other worlds."

Not particularly interested in learning about the difference between a witch and a wizard, Maddie changed the subject.

Chapter Ten

"So." Maddie said after a while.

"So... what?" I asked. I'd gone through about 5 blood baggies, and was sitting with my back against the tree trunk - one leg hanging off the side, the other stretched out in front of me.

"What about the humans?"

"Which humans?" I asked, confused. I figured she'd get annoyed if I read her mind, and if I just did that, we couldn't have a normal conversation.

"The humans that saw-"

She trailed off, and I waited her for her to continue. When she didn't, I said, "Saw what?" I knew what she was referring to, but it was always important for a fledgling to come to terms with their new reality.

You don't have to worry." I sipped at the blood in the cup I held.

"What about their phones?"

"What?" I looked down at her, confused.

She looked up at me from where she sat on the forest floor, cross legged. "Some of the humans had there phones out, and were probably filming me."

I nodded, looked up. I thought for a moment, then leaned over, saying, "You can use a phone to take a video?"

Maddie stood up, walked over to me, and jumped up next to me on the tree branch. "You didn't know that?"

I shook my head.

"Where have you been living? Under a rock?!?" She accused me.

"Maaaaaaybe." I admitted. She gave me a weird look. "What? I owed Satan a favor."

"Satan is real, too?" she asked.

"Yeah," I replied. "He's one of the only beings more powerful than vampires so I had to go down there when he asked. Besides, he's a friend of mine."

"How did you become friends with Satan?" She asked.

"That," I pointed at her, and poked her chest, "is a long story." I grabbed the bag, and dropped down from the tree, "Now, how about we get you some new clothes?"

"Uh. Sure...." She said, unsure.

"Great." I grabbed her wrist, and teleported us back to the city, directly outside a department store. "Come on." I dragged her in the store, and up to the front desk.

"Hello how may I help-" the cashier trailed off when she saw the dried blood on Maddie. "-you."

"I was wondering if you had any clothes that would fit her?" I nodded in the direction of Maddie, whose red eyes were pulsing with mild bloodlust. I saw this, and sighed, turning to face her. "Pet, we talked about this. You have to say calm around humans, ok."

"How the hell am I supposed to do that?" She demanded through clenched teeth.

"Just calm down, and think about something else?" I suggested.

She started thinking about the forest, which was good. She was also thinking is this really your idea of "discreet"? Which was ok, I guess.

I thought I'm going to wipe her mind after, and the security cameras - don't worry, then sent the thought to Maddie's mind.

She took an unnecessary deep breath, and nodded.

"Ok." I turned to the human again. "As I said, do you have anything that would fit her?"

She didn't speak, and was reaching for a shiny red phone.

"You don't wanna do that."

She tried to started dialing.

I sighed, and went into the humans mind, forcing her to drop the phone. It was pathetically easy - humans have such weak minds.

When I removed the fear from the human's mind, she was much more compliant.

In almost no time at all, Maddie was wearing a clean pair of jeans, tank top, and hoodie - all in black. She still wore the same sneakers from before.

Before we left the store, I wipe down the human's mind of out visit. I also left her with a set of compulsive instructions to destroy the security footage of us. Also also, I went through her mind and learned more about the latest in human technology than I cared to know.

"Come on," I dragged Maddie out of the store, and we headed down the street, and entered an Apple Store.

"What are we doing here?" She asked.

"Apparently, I'm crawling out from under a rock."

Chapter Eleven

A few seconds after we entered the store, I heard a low voice say, "Welcome, how may I help you."

I looked towards whoever it was that said that and shrugged, pushing Maddie towards him. "Ask her. She's the one who understands what ever the hell all this is."

Maddie didn't say anything, and was instead staring at the employee. I remembered that, as a human, Maddie had never seen any supernatural creatures, and instead just saw human glamours. Now that she was a vampire, she'd be able to see through those disguises, which could get a bit distracting.

"How may I help you?" He repeated. The employee was a goblin standing on a stool behind the customer help desk. His skin was a purplish-brown with lumpy texture. He was bald, and his ears were large and pointed at the ends. "Wait a second, you two look familiar."

"What do you mean?" Maddie asked.

"Hang on." The man, whose nametag identified himself as 'Mike' looked around behind the desk, and produced a shiny silver rectangle. He started tapping on it, and finally flipped it around to show a screen with a picture on it.

He reached around, tapped the center, and a video started playing. Instantly, I recognized Maddie, and I. She was right. One of the humans from the hotel had been filming us.

The video stopped, and Mike said, "Why didn't you destroy the footage or something? I thought you vamps were really careful about hiding yourselves from humans."

"Says the goblin wearing the class-9 glamour." I retorted.

He rolled his eyes, and shook his head.

"You wanna fight, little man? I could take you." I lunged at him, but Maddie grabbed me, and I reluctantly allowed myself to be restrained by her. I shrugged her off, and walked away, looking though the store.

"So, what are you doing here, anyway?" Mike asked Maddie.

"I think to get her a phone?" Maddie pointed at me, confused.

"Why?"

"I'm not entirely sure." Maddie replied, glancing over at me.

Mike shrugged. "As long as you have money, I don't care."

"Do you have money?" Maddie asked me.

I looked up from the box I was examining, and said, "I probably have about 2000 U.S. dollars on me."

"So what phone model are you looking for?" Mike asked Maddie.

"What about this?" I held up an iPhone 6s.

"Awesome," was Maddie's response.

I walked over and placed a box containing the same model on the counter. I also grabbed a second box.

When Maddie looked at me, I responded with, "you want one too."

"Sweet." After I paid, I teleported the both of us to the top of a building. I sat down on the edge, and started tearing apart the phone package. When the device was free, turned on the phone, and started setting it up. I looked up to see Maddie staring at me like I was crazy. "What?"

She shook her head. "Less than a half hour ago you barely even knew what a phone was."

I pointed to my head. "Hello? I have telepathy."

"Wouldn't you have found this out a while ago?" She asked.

"Did I not mention the rock?" I looked at her pointedly.

"Yeah. Something about Satan?" She said, confused.

"Yeah." I placed the phone on the roof next to me while it loaded. "He was having some problems, and he asked, so I thought I'd help out. Unfortunately, time passes differently in Hell, so roughly a month there is a couple decades on Earth."

"What kind of problems?"

"Well." I thought for a minute. "He had a really bad breakup, and then there were a couple revolts, and-"

"Wait a second. You went to Hell to comfort Satan?" Maddie asked, confused.

"He's my friend," I retorted. I saw that the phone had finished loading, and picked it back up.

"What are you doing?" She looked over my shoulder.

"Stealing the wifi password, and apple account of a couple of witches living in one of the apartments in this building we're sitting on top of." I stated as-a-matter-of-factly.

"Witches?" She started opening her own phone.

I nodded.

She shook her head. What have I gotten myself into? she thought.

Chapter Twelve

"Rin would have a field day with this," I said scrolling through YouTube.

"Who?" Maddie asked, confused.

"She's a vampire. She gets hired to kill people who expose the supernatural community to humans. Well, I say 'hired'. Really its more like a long, long time ago she was ordered to and hasn't stopped since." I explained.

"You were away from earth for well over a decade, how would you know wether or not she's still doing this?" Maddie questioned.

"How do you know how long I was away?" I asked.

"You've been away long enough not to know about cameras in phones - or really modern phones in general - but you know about security cameras. This indicates you've been away for roughly 2 decades." She reasoned.

I nodded.

"She likes killing people." I glanced back down at the phone screen in my hands. "Why won't this verifyyyyy?"

"Sounds like a nice person." Maddie mused.

"Look." I held up my phone for Maddie to look at.

"What?" She examined the page. "'The age you have entered is not acceptable,'" she read out loud. Maddie gave me a look. "You entered you actual age?"

"Yeah." I brought the phone back down to my lap.

"Casey, humans don't live that long." She chided me sarcastically.

"I know, I know." I said, adjusting the date.

"It's probably a failsafe for any underaged kids making an account." Maddie reasoned.

"Shut up." I ordered her.

She immediately silenced.

We both sat there for a while, not really speaking. The only sounds came from the life and vehicles down below. Maddie logged on to her old accounts, and updated them all. She viewed messages from friends, but didn't say anything. I made a variety of social media accounts, and posted small starter updates on all of them.

When I'd finished, I turned to Maddie and was about to say something to her, when I caught a whiff of a human. True, I'd been smelling the humans down on the streets below this building we sat upon, but this particular one had captured my full concentration.

I stood up, and slid the phone in my back pocket. I turned around, and jumped down from the elevated ledge and onto the roof.

"You stay here until I get back." I ordered Maddie.

"Where are you going?" She asked.

"To hunt." I said calmly, "I'm still hungry."

Chapter Thriteen

Instead of teleporting down to the street, I went over to the side of the building that was adjacent to the next one, and jumped into it. The second I made contact with the wall of the other building, I flipped around and jumped back to the wall of the first building. I continued this until I reached the ground.

I stood there, in the middle of the alleyway, searching for my prey. I stalked down it, and saw the human coming down the street. When it passed in front of the entrance to the alleyway, I grabbed it and dragged it in.

I shoved the human against the wall, and he was surprisingly calm - I hadn't even started using mind control yet!

"Listen. I don't know who you think you are, but if you do this, you'll regret it." He was ignorant, and overconfident, spouting nonsense.

"Why?" I asked, indulging him for a moment.

"I run this place, and people will notice I'm gone. When that happens, my lawyers will find you, and sue the living hell out of you!" The human's words were nonsensical and desperate.

I laughed, revealing my fangs. "I seriously doubt that'll happen."

Upon the sight of my seemingly unnatural teeth, he truly became scared. "W-what are you?"

"The unsueable, dear. Hush, now." I bit down on his throat, stopping his screams before they could form. The blood slid down my throat as a sweet, red elixir as I sucked the human dry. He died, but I continued to feed, not stopping untill ever last drop of blood was gone from his body.

I let go of the corpse, and straightened up. I closed my eyes, and smiled. I hadn't finished the human from yesterday, and the blood packets I'd been drinking were relatively small. This human was tall, a large meal, and after draining it, my body filled with more energy than I'd consumed in a while.

I walked away, and into the street, knowing my eyes were pulsating a brighter red than normal. No one seemed to notice, so I went to see what all the commotion was about - there was a large congregation of humans parading around with cardboard signs.

Not wanting to talk to anyone, I slipped in and out of the humans' minds. After I had a good idea on what was going on, I teleported back to Maddie. She jumped slightly when she saw me sitting next to her.

"Did you know you have a puppet in control of your county?" I asked her.

"What?" She gave me a look.

I pulled up a photo of Donald Trump on my phone, and showed it to her. "You heard of this guy?"

"Yeah. He's the president." She confirmed. "What about him?"

"He's not human." I told her.

"Really?"

"What? You thought the sagging orange skin was natural?" I looked at her.

"What is he then?" She asked, interested.

"He's this low-level spirit. What happens, is they will be summoned, and forced into a human body. A lot of times they're used for taking over the world. Usually it fails though. Whoever controlling this one must be using a pretty powerful spell." I mused, looking back at the photo. "I think I might recognize this one in particular."

"Really?" Maddie gave me a slightly confused look.

"Yeah, the Russians tried multiple things in the past, but they never worked. I think I recall discussion about a spirit such as this." I exited the app, and started looking around at news stories which only confirmed my suspicions. When I looked up at Maddie, she had an astonished expression on her face. "What?"

She shook her head. "Nothing. This just explains so much."

I shrugged. "So, is there anything that you want to do?"

"What do you mean?" she asked.

"You're a vampire now. There must me something that you want to do." I said.

"Can I see my brother?" she asked hopefully.

"Sure." I agreed.

"Seriously?" she asked, surprised that I was actually considering her request.

"Yeah, why not?"

"Well, they think I'm dead-"

"If you really cared about that, you wouldn't've updated all your social media profiles." I interrupted.

She shrugged. "I guess."

I extended my hand, and grabbed her's. "Shall we?"

Maddie let out a "What?" as we teleported. When we rematerialized, we were sitting on a couch in a small apartment. In a nearby kitchen area, there stood two humans. One was a human male - Maddie's brother - and the other was a female.

"Who are you?" she asked of me.

I found and thought for a minute before responding. "That is a very complex question. However, I'm going to assume that what you are inquiring for is my name, yes?"

She gave me a strange look.

"My name is Casey, and you are...?"

"Maddie!" the human male exclaimed, recognizing her. He hugged her, not seeming to notice the lowered temperature of her skin. When he eventually pulled away, he saw her red eyes. He looked over at me, and his gazed continued to shift between the two of us. "What happened?" he demanded.

"Ok, remember when I disappeared a while ago?" Maddie started.

"How could I forget?" said the brother.

"Shh." I shushed him, "she's talking, don't interrupt."

He glared at me, and Maddie continued.

"Well, It turns out I'd been kidnapped by vampires." Maddie explained, "they took me to a place called a 'Blood Bar' where I was tied up in chains, and fed on almost daily. I was there up until about a day ago when Casey came and rescued me. She also turned me into a vampire."

"You turned my little sister into a vampire?" he asked me.

"She agreed to it." I pointed out.

"Why would you do that?" he asked.

"I thought I was going to die." Maddie admitted.

"Most Blood Bars don't treat humans very... humanely." I cut in, "You should consider yourselves luckily that this particular bar wasn't one that killed often."

"I suppose." He held out a hand to me, "hello, Casey. Thank you for saving my sister. My name is Jack, and that over there is my girlfriend, Wendy."

I looked at his hand, then at his face. "Pleased to meet you."

"I'm sorry, but this is insane." Wendy was finally speaking, "vampires aren't real."

"I just teleported into your living room." I stated, "as far as I was aware humans didn't have the abilities or technology to do that. Or do they?" I mused, I had been away for a long time, maybe human scientists had figured it out. I doubted it, though.

She didn't say anything to that.
